Last week the Episcopal Bishop of Washington, Mariann Edgar Budde, delivered a sermon at the National Cathedral where she asked President Trump to show mercy for our LGBTQ+ and migrant communities. She reminded those in attendance, including the President, Vice President and their families, that right now there are children who are afraid that their parents could be taken away. There are LGBTQ+ children who fear for their own lives and safety.
Not surprisingly, Donald Trump lashed out at Bishop Budde for her comments, but for so many in our community, her words came as a welcome reminder of our humanity as a nation, and our need to look out for those that are hurting and scared right now.
Red Wine & Blue has put together a thank you card for Bishop Budde to let her know that we stand with her and support her actions. We will hand deliver the card and your personal messages of thanks to her. Please join us in thanking Bishop Budde.
Bishop Budde made me even more pleased to be an Episcopalian, and I loved her wise words!
✅ I tend to think of religion as another way to divide people and put them into boxes but her message reminded me of the core values I was taught at many a vacation Bible school and Sunday sermon. As an atheist I sometimes feel like I'm living the core human values like empathy and treating others with dignity better than some "Christians" today. This was a reminder that those people may be the (loud) minority.
