First of all, we want to highlight that today marks two years that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending our constitutional right to abortion. We know this has affected so many in our community in so many different ways. Maybe you or someone you love was unable to get an abortion in your state. Or maybe you’ve had to wait weeks longer than normal for basic reproductive care. No matter the story, we want to hear from you! Share in the comments how you or your family and friends have been impacted by the fall of Roe.
New law requires all Louisiana public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments
The SWP take: This controversial law is part of Project 2025, which aims to infuse Christian nationalism during a potential Trump second term to advance a far-right agenda. Implementing the Ten Commandments in public classrooms is only one step toward their ultimate goal of eroding the separation between church and state. We all need to be talking to everyone we know about the importance of voting in 2024 and voting for candidates who share our vision for what America should be.
US Supreme Court upholds federal domestic-violence gun ban
The SWP take: We agree with what Moms Demand Action posted on Instagram.
“The Supreme Court did the right thing. But whether domestic abusers have a constitutional right to have guns shouldn’t have been a question to begin with. This happened because extremist lower court judges appointed by Donald Trump prioritized the gun lobby’s agenda over survivors’ lives. Elections matter. We cannot afford a president who will appoint judges whose loyalties lie with the gun lobby.”
Democrats target 150-year-old 'zombie law,' warning the GOP could use it to ban abortion
The SWP take: The Comstock Act of 1873, which has not been widely enforced for decades, bans lewd, obscene or abortion-producing materials from being sent through the mail. A group of Senate Democrats is seeking to repeal this law as reproductive rights supporters fear a future president could use it as a back door to curtail abortion nationwide. We applaud these Senators for being proactive in protecting our reproductive rights.
