Here are three news stories you need to know about this week.
Kennedy’s Lawyer Has Asked the F.D.A. to Revoke Approval of the Polio Vaccine
The SWP Take: The polio vaccine has saved countless lives across the globe for decades. It’s extremely dangerous to try to revoke this important vaccine and these efforts go against the science that shows this vaccine is safe for children. This is one of the many reasons why we are concerned about RFK Jr. being nominated as the head of Health and Human Services.
The SWP Take: Ed Martin, a conservative activist and commentator has been picked as the next chief of staff at the Office of Management and Budget known as OMB. Martin gained prominence after advocating for a national abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest, which included criminal penalties for women and doctors involved in abortions. Martin’s nominations shows that the Trump administration is supportive of a hard-line abortion ban across the country, even if it punishes women.
Abortion bans are profoundly impacting contraceptive care, study finds
The SWP Take: We aren’t surprised that more women are seeking birth control options following the Dobbs decision. And now there is evidence that doctors are also feeling pressured to change the ways they prescribe birth control. In some cases women are being forced to go without pain management during the insertion of an IUD because doctors are afraid to use a medication sometimes used in abortions. This is just one of the many ways that abortion bans negatively impact medical care for women and it’s not okay.
Where are the women!
A lot is going on about reproductive healthcare. We need to get loud. !!
