Utah bans 13 books in public schools statewide
The SWP take: We have seen book bans across the country, but this is different. Utah is the first state to issue a list of books to be banned statewide. It's all to comply with a law that went into effect July 1 that says schools should prioritize "protecting children from the harmful effects of illicit pornography over other considerations." When a book is removed by three school districts, it must be removed statewide. “It is a dark day for the freedom to read in Utah,” said Kasey Meehan, Freedom to Read program director at PEN America.
Child rape survivors face extraordinary barriers in states with abortion bans

Eleven states that have banned or restricted abortion since Roe v Wade fell have exceptions for rape and incest – but, they are often unworkable in practice due to a lack of abortion providers, requirements that survivors report the crime to police, and strict gestational limits.
