The SWP take: We applaud the Biden Administration for protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ students and adding new safeguards for victims of campus sexual assault. Next we would like to see a new policy forbidding schools from enacting outright bans on transgender athletes. Let’s make schools safe for EVERYONE.

Emergency rooms refused to treat pregnant women, leaving one to miscarry in a lobby restroom

The SWP take: We know that abortion and maternity care are related and when there isn’t good access to pregnancy care services, this is what happens. Complaints that pregnant women were turned away from U.S. emergency rooms have spiked since the fall of Roe. This raises alarms about the state of emergency pregnancy care in the U.S., especially in states that enacted strict abortion laws.

More than 370,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine

The SWP take: April 20th marked 25 years since the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999. We remember those we have lost to gun violence and all of the people impacted by this horrible epidemic.
