Immigration is everywhere on the news and in political speeches. Sometimes it seems to be Donald Trump’s only talking point.
Both Trump and JD Vance have no problem spreading vicious lies to demonize immigrants and make Americans afraid. From the absurd (the lies about Haitian immigrants in Springfield) to the pervasive (immigrants are “taking American jobs”), disinformation is everywhere.
But for Rachel and Alex Vindman, it’s personal. Alex came to the U.S. as a refugee from Ukraine when he was four years old, and he credits his immigration story as the source of his patriotism and optimism about this country. It’s why he assured his father, while testifying against Donald Trump in 2019, that he was safe: “because this is America, and here right matters.”
This week, we’re releasing a special 3-episode miniseries about immigration on the Suburban Women Problem podcast feed. It features interviews not just with Rachel and Alex, but with other immigrants, historians, authors, psychologists, politicians, and more.
With lies about immigrants looming large over the November election, it’s critical that we talk about it. The American Fabric corrects the record on misinformation, shows how Republicans are weaponizing human beings for political gain, and hands the mic to immigrants from a variety of backgrounds to tell their stories - in their own words.
New episodes on Wednesday 9/25, Thursday 9/26, and Friday 9/27.
