We Fight With Ballots, Not Bullets

But that doesn't mean we don't fight.

The assassination attempt on Donald Trump last weekend is only the latest escalation in the rise of political violence in this country.

There was the kidnapping attempt on MI Governor Gretchen Whitmer. There was the man who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer. There have been countless threats and attacks on election officials since 2020. And let’s not forget the violent insurrection attempt on January 6th.

As President Biden said in his speech following the shooting, America needs to “lower the temperature” in our discourse. But that doesn't mean we should stop telling the truth. Extremists, including Trump, want to take away our rights. Their policies are dangerous for women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and democracy itself.

Two distinct things must remain true: violence has no place in our democratic process, and we cannot stop using our voices (and our votes) to stop extremism.
