Yesterday was a hard day for a lot of us. The anniversary of the violent insurrection and attack on our Capitol four years ago, coinciding with the certification of the election of President Donald Trump, is a lot to deal with in one day. No matter what you were feeling yesterday — sad, angry, hopeless, mad, motivated, ready to keep fighting — you weren’t alone in those feelings.
We get it. Things are tough right now. In just 13 days, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as president again. It feels like he won’t ever be held accountable for all of the terrible things he did during his first administration, including inciting violence on our Capitol. It might be a long four years, so over the holidays we made a concerted effort to focus on the good things in our lives. We spent time with loved ones, we caught up on sleep, we immersed ourselves in holiday traditions or even started new ones.
Most of all, we remembered that we aren’t alone in this fight. We are stronger because we have each other. And we’ve been here before. We know how to get through it. We know how to fight and how to protect our rights. And we know that we have each other.
We take heart in what Vice President Kamala Harris said recently. “We’re not defeated.” We have so much work to do over the next few years. And we are ready to get to work. So let’s go! We need you in this fight with us.
Thank you
