We were so excited to talk to Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow on the podcast this week. Mallory has become known as a bit of a suburban women whisperer, after her speech about standing up for marginalized kids as a suburban mom went viral in 2022.
And this July, she was one of the featured speakers on the White Women: Answer The Call Zoom event where over 160,000 women gathered to organize and raise money for Kamala Harris. On that call, her message was clear. “This is not the time to start a book club,” she said. “This is the time to take action.”
So we asked her… what action did she have in mind? What can we really do over the next two weeks?
Her response was perfect: talk to potential voters! Here at Red Wine & Blue we’re always talking about the power of conversations, so her suggestion was music to our ears. Talk to your neighbors, sign up for direct voter outreach, or text your friends. Ask the mom in Starbucks if she has a plan to vote when you’re both grabbing your pumpkin spice lattes!
It might feel a little uncomfortable at first. Many women are taught that being “nice” and “agreeable” are our most important traits, so difficult conversations can seem scary. But calling a friend to make sure she’s voting or even knocking on a neighbor’s door doesn’t have to be difficult. It can just be a friendly conversation about your shared values and what you both want for your community.
And if you need some help, our Rally tool can help you plan and track your conversations with your friends and family.
In many places, early voting has already started - so there’s no time to waste. Some elections come down to a handful of votes, so one conversation could make the difference!
