The last week felt like a decade in political news and we aren’t going to lie — it was exhausting. If you watch national news coverage, the media makes it sound like there is no energy or fight left in progressive organizing. But they couldn’t be more wrong.
We host virtual and in-person events multiple times a week. And you know what we are seeing? An increase in attendance! Just last week we held an evening event on the Sunday night before the inauguration with Heather Cox Richardson and over 22,000 people showed up on Zoom. Another 100,000 people viewed the event on Heather’s Facebook page, and since the event 47,000 people have viewed the recording on our YouTube (you can watch it here too). If that’s not energy and momentum, we don’t know what is.
Women might not be marching out in the streets with the same enthusiasm we saw in 2017 but that’s because the movement has changed. Women are more engaged than ever before, and they are leading their communities to organize. After our event with Heather Cox Richardson we had over 100 new TroubleNation groups form all over the country. And that number has continued to grow throughout the last two weeks. So if you’re looking for a place to connect with women locally, check out TroubleNation. You could join an existing group or start your own. And we promise, you’ll find your community here at Red Wine & Blue. We will get through this, because we have each other.
