When They Say "More Authority to the Family"...

Whose family do they mean, exactly?

Republicans have called themselves the “party of family values” for a long time, and Project 2025 claims it will “restore” the authority of the traditional family. And we all know that it’s only a very specific type of family that they have in mind: white straight married parents, 2.5 kids, a house in the suburbs, and a stay-at-home mom who has no need for childcare.

But it goes beyond that. Not only do they want to take away any economic policies that give women economic autonomy, now they want to take away no-fault divorce. Just a few years ago, JD Vance said that no-fault divorce is “one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace.”

Right. It’s the ability to choose when and how long to be married that’s our main problem. If we had fewer choices, things would be… better?

And speaking of choices, let’s not forget they’re also taking away women’s right to choose when and how to have children - the most foundational choice a family can make.

We’ve endured their misogyny, their opposition to childcare and school lunches, and their weird obsession with “biological” children for so long that it’s tempting to just roll our eyes and move along. But armed with Project 2025, Republicans have real policies to accompany their regressive ideas.

Let’s raise our voices in support of all families.
